Personal Information: Personally Identifiable Information (“Personal Information”) is any information that can be used to identify a specific individual. Whether we collect Personal Information will depend on how you are using the Foundation Media. We collect and store any Personal Information you enter into the Foundation Media or provide to us in some other manner. For example, you provide us with Personal Information (including your name, email address and telephone number) when you reach out to us through our Contact Us option or otherwise email us. You also provide Personal Information when you submit credit card information.
Aggregate and Anonymous Data: Aggregate and anonymous data is information collected automatically through the operation of the Foundation Media, as well as certain Personal Information which we aggregate and use in a manner that does not identify you personally (“AA Data”). We may collect usage data (such as which pages of the Site you visit and in what sequence) through the use of various technologies. For example, we collect IP addresses from individuals who access the Foundation Media. We do not link IP addresses to any Personal Information, so although your session will be logged, you will remain anonymous to us. We may also collect computer and connection information such as the type of browser you are using, the type of operating system you are using, and the domain name of your Internet Service Provider.
Unless you provide us with Personal Information, you remain anonymous to us other than by association with an Internet protocol address or other authentication mechanism.
AA Data: We may also use Personal Information in aggregate form for purposes of research or analysis. Although this aggregated data may be based in part on Personal Information, it does not identify you personally. We may share this type of AA Data with a variety of third parties, including our affiliates, agents, research partners and current and prospective business partners. We may use AA Data collected from the Foundation Media for administration, advertising and promotional purposes, and we may share such information with various affiliated and unaffiliated entities for such purposes.
The Foundation may work with other organizations that provide specific services for us, such as credit card processing. When we engage a third party to perform these functions, that third party will be provided with the particular Personal Information it needs to perform its function. We require such third party service providers to keep the Personal Information confidential.
In addition, we may disclose Personal Information without providing you with the ability to opt out under the following limited circumstances: to (1) protect the legal rights, privacy or safety of the Foundation, its subsidiaries or affiliates and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents; (2) protect the safety and security of other users of the Foundation Media; (3) protect against fraud or other illegal activity or for risk management purposes; (4) respond to inquiries or requests from public authorities; (5) permit us to pursue available remedies or limit the damages that we may sustain; (6) enforce our Policies; or (7) comply with the law or legal process.
In addition, the Foundation shares general usage data in aggregated form such that no Personal Information is identifiable to participating libraries, publishers, and the general public. The Foundation will provide you all of your retained personal information provided at registration (where applicable) on request.
If you have previously provided Personal Information to us and are receiving emails or other communications from us and you do not want to continue receiving such emails or want to change the type of emails you receive, please contact us. If you ask that we stop using your Personal Information, we will take reasonable steps to honor that request on a prospective basis.
Although the Foundation has appropriate security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, or alteration of information that we have collected from you at our site, no information transferred over the Internet is 100% secure. The Foundation cannot guarantee the total security of information transmitted to us.
